mbgsl age specific rules

Rules
Mission Bay Girls Softball Leagues follows ASA Softball rules with the following exceptions in each division:

T-Ball Division

The score is not kept. There is no bunting, stealing, walking or infield fly rule. The runner cannot advance on a dropped third strike or steal home. Each half inning ends when all players on the offensive team have batted. Every player on the team plays defense with the extra players positioned in the outfield. Players must be rotated between outfield and infield positions at minimum every two innings. No new innings will be started after one hour. Runners may take only one base on an overthrow to the pitcher or the base. Batters use a batting “T” until Spring Break. After Spring Break, coaches will pitch to batters who will either hit or strike out. A coach may designate four players to remain batting from the “T” at the coach’s discretion. Pitching distance: 30 feet. Base paths: 45 feet.

Rookie Division

Bunting and base stealing are allowed; however you can only steal one base per pitch and there is no stealing home. There is no infield fly rule and runners may not advance on a dropped third strike. There is a run limit of four runs per inning, except the last inning where there is no run limit. Runners may take only one base on an overthrow to the pitcher, but no limit on an overthrow to a base, unless the ball goes out of play. Teams play a lineup of ten (10) players. On defense, all the normal infield postions are filled and the remaining players are positioned in the outfield. The game may last six innings; however, no new innings will start after one hour and fifteen minutes. Pitchers are allowed to pitch no more than two innings per game. There are no walks. The offensive coach will come in to pitch to the batter when three consecutive balls (non-strikes) are pitched or the count reaches four balls. Batter can be called out on strikes. Coach pitches a maximum of three (3) pitches or until the batter hits or strikes out. Pitching distance: 30 feet. Base paths: 50 feet.

Junior Division

Bunting and base stealing are allowed; however you can only steal one base per pitch and there is no stealing home. There is no infield fly rule and runners may not advance on a dropped third strike. There is a run limit of four runs per inning, except the last inning where there is no run limit. Runners may take only one base on an overthrow to the pitcher, but no limit on an overthrow to a base, unless the ball goes out of play. Teams play a lineup of ten (10) players. On defense, all the normal infield postions are filled and the remaining players are positioned in the outfield. The game may last six innings; however, no new innings will start after one hour and thirty minutes. Pitchers are allowed to pitch no more than six innings in two consecutive games. Pitchers may exceed six innings if there are at least four days between games. Walks are allowed. Prior to April 1, after three walks in any half inning, the offensive coach will come in to pitch to the batter when the count reaches four balls on the fourth batter. Batter can be called out on strikes. Coach pitches a maximum of three (3) pitches or until the batter hits or strikes out. From April 1 on, ASA rules apply and under no circumstances shall the coach pitch. Pitching distance: 35 feet. Base paths: 50 feet.

Senior Division

Bunting and base stealing are allowed, including stealing home. The infield fly rule is in play and runners may advance on a dropped third strike. There is a run limit of five runs per inning, except the last inning where there is no run limit. There is no limit on the number of bases runners may take on overthrows to the pitcher, unless the ball goes out of play. Teams play nine players on defense and offense. The game may last seven innings; however, no new innings will start after one hour and thirty minutes. Pitchers are allowed to pitch no more than nine innings in any two consecutive games. Pitchers may exceed nine innings if there are at least four days between games. Pitching distance: 40 feet. Base paths: 50 feet.
